This summer a group of rising senior, junior and sophomore Wolves traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the National High School Lacrosse Showcase (NHSLS). The trip continues a long Worthington Kilbourne tradition of traveling to top level competitions to test, grow and improve our players and our program.
The Wolves played in Session #2 of the NHSLS along with 25 of the top teams in the country. Among the teams Worthington Kilbourne played included IMG Academy (Florida), DeMatha HS (Maryland), Summit (NJ) and more.
The Wolves brought an experienced group of defenders and fared well in containing opposing teams' attack. On offense the Wolves transitioned this summer with some less experienced players and players in new positions. The offense started slowly but improved, grew and matured every game and increased goal production throughout the tournament.
With a wealth of college coaches on hand from every level, it is also a great opportunity for exposure for players who plan to pursue college opportunities.
Beyond the field, players started to lay the groundwork for the upcoming season with new leaders beginning to emerge, new relationships being built and players learning to play together in new roles.
To get better, you have to play the best competition. The NHSLS trip once again was a valuable experience that coaches and players expect will pay dividends in 2019.
